Psychosocial risk, treated like the hazard it is

You manage risk assessments, controls and audit files for a living. Psychosocial risk is now on your register, and the directive, if one comes, will land on your desk. This page speaks your language: duty, assessment, controls, records.

The duty

Section 18B of the Occupational Safety and Health Act 1994, as amended in 2022, requires risk assessment covering risks to safety and health at the workplace. Psychosocial risk falls within the duty. DOSH's PRisMA 2024 guideline sets out the assessment methodology, aligned with ISO 45003:2021. Penalties for non compliance reach RM500,000, imprisonment of up to two years, or both.

You already know how this pattern works from every other hazard class: assess by unit, verify controls, document, act, reassess, retain records. PRisMA follows the same logic. The unfamiliar part is only the hazard.

What goes in your audit file

  • The assessment report, signed by a registered Psychosocial Trained Person, in the guideline's required format, delivered within 30 days of fieldwork.
  • Work unit level results scored against the guideline's thresholds, for every unit including management.
  • The verified practice checklist for high risk units, with evidence behind each answer checked by the PTP, not self declared.
  • The action plan, matched to the guideline's prescribed action themes and prioritised.
  • The reassessment schedule: 12 months where risk is high, otherwise two years, with records retained for seven years.

Controls that survive verification

A hotline nobody calls fails the practice checklist the moment usage is examined. The controls we deploy are the kind that produce evidence: support with measurable utilisation across languages and shifts, manager training with attendance and assessment records, and continuous measurement between reassessment cycles so the next report shows movement, not a repeat finding. The platform page covers the mechanics.

If a directive has already arrived

Fieldwork within 72 hours, signed report within 14 days, nothing about the method abbreviated. Details on the directive response page.

Where to start

The readiness check takes five minutes and maps your current position against the guideline's expectations. Bring the result to a call and we will scope work units and quote from the published price bands.
